Under Billy, the A's teams have won 1396 games. The Angels have won 1,388 games in those 16 seasons. The Yankees won only 153 more games in that period while outspending the A's on payroll by more than two billion dollars! In 113 years, the Athletics organization has been to the playoffs 25 times total.

At the end of the season, Oakland would lose Giambi, Damon, and Isringhausen to free agency; this would set the stage for the events portrayed in Michael Lewis' bestselling book Moneyball (and the film of the same name).

The core of those teams was the same throughout the three-year run and featured Hall of Famers Catfish Hunter, Reggie Jackson and Fingers, along with an impressive complement of pitchers (Vida Blue, Ken Holtzman and Blue Moon Odom) and position players (Joe Rudi, Bert Campaneris and Bando).
