What are the symbols of the Folk Nation? ›

The Folk Nation began in 1978 within the Illinois Department of Corrections. Generally, gangs within the Folk Nation use the six-point star, wear identifiers on the right side (hats, bandanas, etc) and embody the pitch fork.

The six-pointed star stands for: Love, Light, Loyalty, Understanding, Knowledge and Wisdom. The hats worn include gang names. Bandannas may be observed hanging out of their right back pockets. As previously stated most Disciples will either be classified as BGD or IGD.

More specifically, they self-identify as Sisters of the Struggle (S.O.S.), Intellectual Sisters, Intellectual Sisters of the Struggle (I.S.O.S.), or simply members of the Gangster Disciples gang.
